On this day in history in 1982, CBS ended its run with the hit WKRP in Cincinnati. This ensemble comedy show remains one of television’s best Crazy Coworker Comedies.

The 90th and last episode of this show was a full-circle completion of the series. The show begins with Andy Travis becoming program manager of a fledgling radio station. He changes the format for the station to rock-n-roll, literally on the air. The final episode is about an upcoming format change from music to all-news programming .

Andy is angry, not only because this format change erases all his hard work in turning the station around, but it means the staff may lose their jobs. He has come to think of these crazy people as his family.

He visits Mr. Carlson’s “Mother Carlson” to find out why she has hired a news programmer without telling him about the change. She explains a news format is the best way to utilize an AM radio station, a fact Andy concedes.
