January 6, 2022

Just for the record, I had no intention of watching the news today, to see the videos of the January 6th insurrection. It was one of America’s worst day in history and I am trying hard to forget it. Some describe it as a “Near death experience” of our Democracy. A journalist reflecting on the feeling in DC today says there is a “Heavy sense of trauma in the air today.”

But, I wanted to hear President Biden’s speech, so I turned it on. I am actually glad I did, because this is still just as important today as it was last year. Because right now, there are political meetings going on all over this country by “Patriots” who are planning retribution. Right now, as I write this, Donald Trump is living his life in Florida. He is pulling the strings of the GOP and its candidates. Right now, they are planting “their people” into the systems of election oversight so they can truly undermine the American vote; ironically the essential thing the “Patriots” felt they were fighting against.

This is how democracies fail and dictators stay in power. This is what happens when the media is one sided. This is what happens when the truth is twisted.
