MOTHERHOOD
The Conflicting World of Motherhood
Enjoy the hugs while you can!
The following is a journal entry I wrote when Daughter was three-years-old. She is now 24 and lives on the other side of the country. I see her once a year, if we are lucky. Mommas hug your babies!
As I look back on the decision to be a stay-at-home Mom for the first few years of her life, I realize again the lonliness and self-doubt Mothers face. There isnβt easy answers on the choices Moms make to backstep from careers and be full time caregivers, and each of us has to make hard decisions.
To all the Moms out there, Happy Motherβs Day.
I had taken my daughter to the zoo and we stopped for a picnic lunch before going to the next exhibits. While we were eating, she gave me a huge hug and said thanks for taking her to the zoo.
Moments later, we were joined at our picnic table by a group of school kids, perhaps in 3rd or 4th grade. A nice mix of kids; black, hispanic, white, girls and boys.
The kids asked about her being in school and I said she was too young to be in school yet. They replied,βOh, she is still in daycare.β I admit I was surprised they seemed to feel daycare was the natural order of things.
