Terrible Tornadoes Damage Virginia, Texas, and Florida; Are You In The Path?
Is tornado alley shifting to the east?

As severe weather season is blowing in with a vengeance, tornadoes have uncharacteristically struck Virginia Beach, Jacksboro, Texas and Palm Beach Gardens Florida. Maryland, Pennsylvania and Delaware have also recently been hit by tornadoes.
Knowing a little about the science of tornados will help you survive one. So let’s take five minutes to learn more about tornadoes to keep your family safe.
In the past, “Tornado alley” was in the central plains and the midwest, but now it seems there may be a pattern of tornadoes moving eastward. Although there isn’t a general consensus from experts if climate change is increasing the strength and frequency of the recent tornadoes, it could be a factor.
The problem is, people living in these states do not have proper storm shelters. Many states build houses without basements. And citizens living in the Southeast are unfamiliar with how to plan, prepare and survive tornadoes.
I remember when we first moved to North Carolina from Ohio. When we looked at houses, I asked where is the basement? The realtor looked at me as if I had two heads and said, “We don’t build basements in North Carolina.”
“What about tornadoes?” I asked. I had experienced two tornadoes in my childhood in Ohio, and I took them seriously.
“We don’t have them either,” he said. I could almost see his mutter, “damn yankee” as he walked away.
A week later, there was a tornado warning. I was watching the news and it came on with flashing red letters. The weatherman said where the funnel was sighted and what landmarks it was near.
