…first-rate performances and gorgeous black and white cinematography (courtesy of Freddie Francis). This is probably the best gateway drug to Lynch’s oeuvre, as it features a relatively straightforward narrative without the dark sexual undercurrents present in much of his other work, though still featuring uniquely Lynchian dreamlike flourishes.

I'd say it was most memorable for me, as I didn't
"get" some of his other work. That is my misfortune as I now look at his directing as amazing cinema.
